What has BAREFOOTSCIENCE™ proven it can do for you?


BAREFOOTSCIENCE™ has studied the foot for the past two decades– from pain reduction studies to measurement of the actual changes in the foot that come from wearing BAREFOOTSCIENCE™ insoles. Through our laboratory work, we have measured the effects that our insoles have on wearers using all manner of observation – from foot pressure measurement devices to gait analysis to pain reduction surveys.


Why have we focused so much on the science behind foot care?


Most of what we currently know about foot care comes from science that is over 100 years old. Some of the original patents for the arch support devices that you currently purchase at your local drug store were filed at the turn of the 20th century! This science has not been re-examined since– in a study of articles in the Journal of American Podiatric Medical Association found that only 1% actually referenced scientific, evidence-based information– very few scientists are actually testing new theories on foot care.


To fill this scientific void, BAREFOOTSCIENCE™ set out to test old theories and find out what can be done to permanently solve the foot pain problem. Here are some of the things we know you can expect from the BAREFOOTSCIENCE™ insole system, proven in our labs, repeatedly.


In pre-clinic trials using BAREFOOTSCIENCE™, it was shown that there was an increase in the structural integrity of the foot. In addition, there was a lessening of pressure hot spots beneath the foot. Musculoskeletal alignment begins with the feet. Atrophied foot muscles are directly related to flat feet, overpronation, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendon, shin splints, bunions, heel spurs, foot, ankle, knee, hip, lower and upper back, shoulder pain, arthritis and diabetic limb amputation.

When the raw data was analysed to compare pre-test surface area and post test surface area, it was found that on average there was 36% reduction in surface area. The foot muscle has no choice but to strengthen when stimulated with every step. 100% of subjects showed a reduction of plantar surface area.






Reduces your foot pain quickly


In a study conducted in a clinical environment, over 96% of the participating ER Doctors and Nurses reported pain reduction in at least one of eight body parts studied.   Participants' fatigue scores fell over 20% while overall pain reductions scores plummeted over 80% during the four-week study.


This dramatic reduction in pain and fatigue comes by way of the strengthening of the foot that begins to happen within the first few hundred steps while wearing BAREFOOTSCIENCE™ insoles. With less wasted energy in the foot comes less fatigue, less pain, and more overall energy.



Adds height to your arches


In a study by Scholl plc and University of Huddersfield in the UK, the BAREFOOTSCIENCE™ insole system was shown to reliably reduce the length and width of the foot's main measurements by up to 4% after eight weeks of use.


An increased arch height results in more even force distribution across the joints of the foot and decreased tension on the foot’s tissues. With an increased arch and an average of 36% less skin on the ground flat feet are virtually eliminated. Along with higher arches comes an increase in stability and reduced pain.


Improves your balance immediately


BAREFOOTSCIENCE™ studied subjects walking patterns while using ordinary walking shoes, as well as shoes with BAREFOOTSCIENCE™ insoles. Using an in-shoe plantar pressure and force measurement system, we measured instant improvements in balance, stability, and side-to-side movement of up to 50% while walking with BAREFOOTSCIENCE™ insoles.


In standing tests, subjects with BAREFOOTSCIENCE™ insoles were observed to have 50% better alignment than those with regular insoles.
